CPCB Recruitment 2026 Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), functioning under the Ministry of Environment, Forest & Climate Change, has invited applications for 51 contractual posts under the “Strengthening of Environmental Regulators (SER) – Phase-III” Project being executed on the River Ganga. The project falls under the Institutional Development Component of the Namami Gange Programme and is funded by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG), with the engagement running up to 6 May 2028 (extendable further as required). Selected candidates will be engaged purely on contract for an initial period of one year, extendable on a case-to-case basis, and will have no claim to regularisation in any regular CPCB vacancy. Educational Qualification & Experience (Key Highlights)

• Scientist-D: First-class Master’s in Environmental/Natural Science, or First-class Bachelor’s in Environmental/Chemical/Civil Engineering, Energy & Environment, or Biotechnology, along with a strong research/publication record (cumulative journal impact factor of at least 10, or 5 published books/book chapters, or 5 CPCB/SPCB technical reports) and 7 years of relevant practical experience in pollution prevention, control and abatement.
• Scientist-C: Same academic streams as above, with a cumulative impact factor of at least 7 (or 3 books/book chapters or 3 technical reports) and 5 years of relevant experience.
• Scientist-B: Same academic streams, with a valid GATE score (90th percentile or above) or NET-JRF qualification, plus 3 years of relevant experience (research/teaching experience also considered).
• Assistant Manager (Finance): First-class Master’s in Commerce (Finance & Accounting/Taxation), Chartered Accountancy, or MBA (Finance), with 8 years’ post-qualification experience including at least 2 years in taxation, along with proficiency in Tally/QuickBooks, statutory filings (TDS, GST, PF, ESI, STPI) and payroll management.
• Administrative Assistant: First-class Bachelor’s degree with working knowledge of computers and at least 5 years of administrative experience, preferably in Government/PSU/Autonomous bodies; must clear a noting-and-drafting skill test.
• Scientific Assistant: First-class Master’s in Environmental/Natural Science or First-class Bachelor’s in the specified engineering streams, with a valid GATE score (90th percentile+) or NET-JRF qualification.
• Taxonomist: First-class M.Sc. (Botany/Zoology preferred, minimum 75%), along with GATE (90th percentile+) or NET-JRF, and a research/publication record similar to the Scientist-C criteria at a reduced threshold.
• Data Entry Operator: First-class Bachelor’s degree in Science or BCA; must clear a computer skill test (MS Office) along with English typing at 45 wpm and Hindi typing at 35 wpm.
• Field Assistant: Passed 10+2 in Science with a minimum of 55% marks, along with knowledge of water/wastewater sampling and sample preservation.

Only full-time regular degree/diploma courses from recognised Indian universities are considered. Time spent pursuing a Ph.D. is not counted as work experience, and candidates with only mark sheets (no degree or provisional certificate) as on the closing date are not eligible.

Nature of Engagement

• All posts are purely contractual and co-terminus with the SER Phase-III project.
• The initial contract period is one year, extendable annually based on project requirement and the candidate’s performance.
• Selected candidates have no right to claim regularisation or absorption into any regular CPCB vacancy.
• CPCB reserves the right to post selected candidates at its Head Office in Delhi or at its Regional Directorates in Lucknow, Kolkata or Chandigarh.
• The number of posts may be increased or decreased depending on actual project requirements.

Selection Process

• Candidates meeting the essential qualification and experience criteria will be called for a written test and/or interview, based on the discretion of the Selection/Screening Committee.
• If a large number of applications is received, shortlisting for interview may be done using a written exam, higher qualification, additional relevant experience, or any other criteria the Committee deems fit.
• Final selection is based on document verification followed by a personal interview conducted in Delhi.
• No TA/DA or accommodation is provided for attending the interview.
