Minimum age is 18 years (as on 1 August 2026) for Primary and Middle School Teacher posts, and 21 years for Secondary and Higher Secondary School Teacher posts. Applicable relaxations for Bihar Government employees, ex-servicemen and PwBD candidates are as prescribed in the detailed notification. Retirement age for all posts is fixed at 60 years.
Eligibility & Qualification (Key Points)
- Candidate must be an Indian citizen and must hold the educational and training qualifications prescribed by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), which vary by school level and subject as detailed in the notification.
- Candidates must have qualified the applicable Teacher Eligibility Test: CTET Paper-I or BTET for Primary Teacher (Class 1-5); CTET Paper-II or BTET for Middle School Teacher (Class 6-8); STET Paper-I for Secondary/Special School Teacher (Class 9-10); and STET Paper-II for Higher Secondary Teacher (Class 11-12).
- Teachers appointed and working before 2012 who have cleared the proficiency test (Dakshata Pariksha) are exempt from the Teacher Eligibility Test requirement.
- Candidates who possess the required academic qualification but are yet to clear STET can also apply, provided they qualify the Secondary Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) 2026 before the Preliminary Examination; an admit card for the Preliminary Exam will not be issued without STET qualification.
- Reservation benefit to SC/ST/EBC/BC candidates and persons with benchmark disabilities is available with a 5% relaxation in minimum qualifying marks in the eligibility examinations, as applicable.
Selection Process
Selection will be made purely through a written examination in two stages — there is no interview for any post.
- Stage 1 – Preliminary Examination: A qualifying-cum-screening test of General Studies; marks obtained here are not counted towards the final merit.
- Stage 2 – Main Examination: An objective-type exam covering Language, General Studies and Subject knowledge relevant to the post applied for; the final merit list is prepared on this basis.

Each question carries 5 options (A–E); candidates must mark one option, choosing option (E) if they do not wish to answer. Leaving all options unmarked also attracts the same 1/3 mark deduction as a wrong answer. Category-wise minimum qualifying marks apply (for example, General 40%, BC 36.5%, EBC 34%, and SC/ST/Female/PwBD 32%, subject to the latest departmental circulars).

How to Apply Online
- Visit the BPSC online portal at bpsconline.bihar.gov.in and complete One Time Registration (OTR) if not already registered; a valid, active email ID and mobile number are mandatory.
- Log in using your OTR credentials and complete profile creation in six steps: Personal Information, Address Information, Other Information, Qualification Information, Experience Information, and Photo/Signature Upload.
- Upload a clear live photo captured via webcam and scanned signatures in both Hindi and English as per the prescribed size and format.
- Lock your profile once all details are verified — after locking, go to the “New Application” tab, select TRE-4.0, choose your post/category, and proceed to fee payment via the SBI payment gateway.
- After successful payment, click “Proceed to Application,” complete any remaining fields, and click “Submit Application” to finalise your form.
- Download and print your submitted application from the “My Account” tab, and keep it safely along with all supporting documents; no changes are allowed once the application is submitted and locked.
